Mixed Media // Installation
2018 (ceramic) 2020 (wax)
We often use the terms childhood and innocence almost synonymously. The word ‘infant,’ derived from the Latin ‘infant,’ literally means ‘one who cannot speak.’ In theory, then, childhood should indeed have the opportunity to be purely innocent. However, in a world shaped by societies filled with preconceptions and institutions that define & attempt to drill what gender is, accepted religions, games and colors specific kids should appreciate, politics, accepted interests, proper education, the role of the mother, the role of the father, the ideal formulation of a family, and much more, it becomes impossible not to influence and impose upon someone, from their childhood, how their being should be.
Therefore, considering how ephemeral Innocence is, the butterflies
incorporated into the sculptures presented – characterized by their
innate fragility – invite us all to question our behavior when those rare instances of Pure Innocence present themselves before us.

METAMORPHOSIS STEEL SCULPTURES
In a world so ephemeral and transitory, redefining itself at a speed that has shifted from linear to exponential, the fragility of life becomes clear. Just as in any metamorphosis, we not only witness our changing form but also our function.
Metaphorically, using the Monarch Butterfly, a species that experiences cycles of change so sudden, pronounced, and filled with transformation and ultimately culminating in the freedom of flight, I embark on my artistic creation.
MEDIUM
Painted Indoor/Outdoor Steel Sculptures.
