Balloon Series, interested in dichotomies inherent to Balloons – Inflation vs. Deflation, Fantasy vs. Reality, Construction vs. Explosion, – and elements of Innocence and Ephemerality involved, Furman embarks on an exploration of this subject matter in her Balloon Series.
All her pieces involve the creation of large scale, surrealist installations , where she then films and photographs happenings that involve human models, that at times even serve as canvases for her body paints, and their interaction with the different balloon settings created.
The series toys around with ideas of release, encasing and caging, reflection, unsustainable inflation, magic in explosion, and at times, the need for hiding; all while maintaining playful and very captivating imagery. Most of the pieces in the series are monotone as Furman really wanted to play with deep explorations of color per piece and establish relationships between the message she intended to deliver with her performances/installations and the individual colors and tones.
MEDIUM
