This series is born from the age-old expression «you can’t have your cake and eat it too» – words that intend to speak of an impossibility: if you eat your cake, there’s no cake left to be had.
With these sculptures, I playfully seek to challenge this adage, as the cakes are intrinsically permanent given the ceramic medium and they are filled with playful, greedy tongues that are willing to munch away. Thus the series is exploring the option that perhaps, with the right strategy, it is possible to achieve it all- or at least, to play around with the idea.
MEDIUM
The pieces in this series are created using different high and low temperature clay, including speckled stoneware, terracotta, and others. Some pieces are glazed while others are left au naturale post kiln. Some pieces are also intervened with oil paints.
